Enroll in a Foot care Nurse  Course

The Basic and Advanced  Foot Care Nurse Certificate Program equips Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) across Canada with the comprehensive skills required to deliver professional nursing foot care services and treatment for diabetic and geriatric clients.

This course is accredited by the Foot Care Nurse Certification Board (FCNCB) and includes the Certified Foot Care Nurse (CFCN) competency examination.

This course is offered online and online hybrid 

The World Health Organization reports that millions of patients globally are affected by diabetes. Among those diagnosed, approximately 90% succumb to complications associated with the disease, such as gangrene and lower limb amputation. Nurses play a pivotal role in delivering effective foot care, working collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams to manage individuals diagnosed with diabetes.

This course is offered online and online hybrid. Course  follows current best practice guidelines and evidence-based practice regarding foot care treatment and assessment.

Topics Includes:

What is Diabetes: type 1 and type 2 of the disease process including prevalence, diagnoses, treatment, management, nutrition, medication.

Pathological condition of the diabetic client feet.

Ulcer risk prevention and the diabetic client,

• Assessment, health teaching and documentation specific to basic and advanced high risk nursing foot care
• Foot care tools equipment and supplies, cutting nails, callous and corn removal.
• CNO standards, RNAO best practice guidelines for diabetic foot care assessment, infection prevention and infection control standards as per Health Canada.
• Clinical practice guidelines 2018 on diabetes footcare. Diabetes Canada

 Practical advice and information on setting up a private foot care business in Ontario will be provided.

Entrance requirement: a current non-restricted nursing registration license as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, license practical nurse, or registered practical nurse with your College of Nurses in your country.

Nurses in Ontario are required to join either the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) or the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO) to secure liability insurance. .

Course material:  Student will be given the names of foot care suppliers where you will be able to purchase foot care supplies and equipment at wholesale price.

Nurses are required to independently locate 20 case studies. Upon completion of your foot care treatments, please submit all 20 case studies, including the high-risk nursing assessment and application of the nursing process, accompanied by before and after photographs documenting your treatment.

Foot care manual is not necessary if you are taking the course online

Refund Policy

For online students taking this course, once you have been accepted into this course and your payment of tuition fee is made.  Your confirmation of enrollment in the course will be confirm and you will be issued with your online access to complete this course, no refund will be issued after online access is given to complete this course.

There will be no refund of tuition fees paid for students completing this course online.  Once the online access to complete this course is given, you will have 10 weeks to complete the course from your start date.

Funding:
For nurses in Ontario, you may receive reimbursement from your associations for tuition fee paid. Please contact RNAO or RPNAO for application form for funding grant up to $1500./year to those who qualify.

Course duration 90 hours including theory clinical and completion of 20 case studies that you will find on your own. The 20 case studies constitutes the practical component of this course.

Case studies must follow school’s format with before and after pictures of the treatment and write up using the nursing process.

Online students are encouraged to shadow a foot care nurse for 1 day in your community. This allows students to observe what a foot care nurse does in the community setting or in private practice. If this is not possible or available in your community, we encourage you to follow the video clips and steps suggested in the online foot care course materials. To complete your 20 case studies that you will find on your own.

The 20 case studies does not have to be high risk clients. Although we prefer that you are treating high risk clients, we are aware that you may not be able to find 20 high risk case studies. Please note where necessary that you can use your family members and friends to complete the 20 case studies required completing the practical component of this course.

For online students having difficulties in finding case studies or finding a foot care nurse to shadow, please note that you will have the option at week 4 or before the end of your 10 week course duration to come to Brampton at your own expense to shadow a nurse and or practice performing high foot care treatments.

The college reserves the right to cancel or change the date and time of onsite clinic visit, as clients may have unforeseen circumstances and need to cancel appointment. In this case students will be notified within a 24 hours of the client confirmation of treatment.

 For students who would like further support in performing foot care treatment for high risk clients, support and mentor ship opportunity is available in Brampton.

Upon completion of passing the theory, and passing the online exam, and submission of the 20 case studies that you will find on your own using the school’s format, you will be awarded the Basic Advanced Nursing Foot care Certification
