Mental Health and Addiction Counseling Diploma

The Mental Health and Addictions Counseling Diploma equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills necessary to assist individuals within the community. Participants learn to counsel clients experiencing mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and addiction disorders. The program also provides instruction on facilitating support groups, utilizing established counselling methods, psychotherapy theories, and techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Course duration 40 weeks

Course includes a 400 clinical practicum that will takes place in your community

Pre requisites: Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent, Hepatitis B vaccine, TB skin text, criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector, and first aid CPR.

In the College of Health Studies Mental Health and Addictions Diploma program, students will complete an 8-week Internship in a professional mental health setting. Assistance will be provided if you cannot secure a placement in your community. Students will work directly in a community service environment and will gain valuable practical experience before graduating.

An Internship is a great way to get a feel for different positions and make important contacts within the industry. Many students are hired by their placement employer for permanent employment in their new profession.
